PAZ
NERVOUS | INDEPENDENT | CURIOUS | TALKATIVE
NAME: Pazmenos "Paz" Malerius
GENDER: Male SPECIES: Tiefling ORIENTATION: Homosexual AGE: 24 MBTI TYPE: ISFP ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Neutral STAR SIGN: Aries HOGWARTS HOUSE: Gryffindor |
Paz places the highest degree of importance on his freedom. There is nothing that is more important to him than his ability to travel freely and, while he is happy to take jobs from whoever will pay him, he has no desire to find permanent work as a fighter, or to settle down at all really until he's got the money to go to chef school and to open his own restaurant.
Paz is afflicted with social anxiety, which rears up in peculiar ways. While fairly solitary and happy to be by himself, he enjoys forming friendships and will often try to chat with his party members, but tends to be particularly awkward with smalltalk and often stutters and struggles to keep eye contact. When he's most nervous, he becomes an absolute motormouth and just kind of vomits up whatever pops into his head. He's a bit of a pathological liar when he's under pressure -- if caught in the act of doing something he shouldn't, his immediate reaction is to lie, often badly. Paz is not necessarily the smartest person, but he is certainly physically strong, and he's definitely kind and cares strongly for most people he meets. Even if they aren't people he gets along especially well with, Paz doesn't like to see anyone harmed who he doesn't think deserves it, and will not hesitate to put himself in harm's way to protect someone who lacks the same physical strength he does. |

Paz was born the son of the great warrior Zerxes Malerius, and his wife Sahiri. The settlement he was born in was a small one of largely tiefling population, largely isolated from the outside world. Paz grew up in awe of his father, of his battle-toned muscles, impressive scars, and majestic presence; Zerxes had always commanded the attention in a room and was, without a doubt, a magnificent man to behold, both in and out of battle. As a child, Paz absolutely idolized the man, and was completely oblivious to the fear his mother held of him. One night, when he was three years old, she put him to bed, and stole off into the night, never to return.
When he awoke that morning his father immediately began training him; without the presence of his mother to interfere there was nothing stopping Zerxes from pushing his son to the point of breaking in order for him to become the next great warrior, as had been done for generations in their clan.
For the next fifteen years, Paz's life became absolutely miserable. He spent most, if not all, of his time training, and when he wasn't working hard enough his father would not hesitate to beat him. His life was, largely, a whirlwind of warrior training and physical abuse, and it was in this time that he discovered the joys of cooking. After his mother left, his father had for several years prepared their meals, and they were not especially tasty. Eventually, it fell to Paz to begin cooking for them, something he came to enjoy more and more as the years went on, a solace in amongst the unpleasantness. He soon found himself striking up a friendship with Ekrias, the baker's apprentice, and began sneaking out after his father went to bed to study baking with him. This relationship soon grew to something more romantic, although this was very much kept quiet due to Paz's father.
One night, finally tiring of the years of abuse, Paz stole his father's prized greatsword -- a family heirloom, passed down through generations of Malerius warriors -- vowing not to return it unless it was to be stabbed through Zerxes' body. He stopped at the bakery, and asked Ekrias to leave with him, but the baker's apprentice refused, telling him there was too much he had going for him in the village, and he couldn't possibly just leave.
For the next few years, Paz's life was an ongoing cycle of jobs. He took small jobs where he could, guarding trading caravans, escorting people, general mercenary work, got paid from those jobs, swore up and down he would save the money to put himself through chef school so he could lead a better life, and then would immediately spend most of it on vices or useless trinkets.
Eventually, he wound up taking a job with a crew of other people, tasked with killing the dragonborn Skitla, and was told that should he succeed, his pockets would be filled with enough gold, he'd be set to go to school easily. However, this wound up backfiring spectacularly; Skitla proved not only to be an immensely formidable foe, but also one who perhaps spoke more reasonably than the very people determined to kill him (the fact that he frequently spoke to voices in his head aside, at least). It was on this mission that he wound up with the likes of Ransom, Silk, Creak, and Isley; a group of people he immediately wanted to be friends with, even if they, for the most part, seemed more than a little, well...criminal.
After battling a dragon alongside this party as well as Skitla, Paz felt quite a bit closer to them after they had saved his life; the battle had very nearly killed him, but he was brought back to camp and healed there.
From here the group ventured off to gather allies for Skitla to take down Renlin, and on this journey he wound up adopting the orphaned half-dire wolf pup, which he named Hela.

RANSOM
Friend? One of his party members; Paz tentatively considers Ransom a friend but doesn't particular trust him, nor does he agree with a lot of the things he does...though he can grudgingly admit that his penchant for murder is sometimes helpful. |
HELA
Pet and Best Friend His pet half-dire wolf, Paz absolutely adores Hela and would probably die for her. |
SILK
Friend One of his party members. While he doesn't exactly approve of her thievery, Paz admires Silk, particularly how well she can hold her own in battle/in werewolf form. |

I designed/created Paz in April 2018 for a Dungeons and Dragons game. He very quickly evolved into a very important character and will never be leaving me!
